Computing systems and compute infrastructure in the Department of Computer Science encompasses unique leading edge research systems, networking, small compute clusters, medium scale virtualization for research and academics, and an agglomeration of development and academic workstations. A computing systems specialist provides technical expertise and operational experience to the researchers, faculty, students, and other technical team members. We are seeking an experienced Linux computing systems specialist who can engage on a cross section of computing systems implementations.
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent IT certifications with 5 years of related work experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field. Five or more years of progressively increasing complexity of Linux systems implementation; OR the equivalent of education and experience with computational or automated infrastructure systems.
Experience in the following areas: compute clusters utilizing MPI, compiling Linux libraries from source, DHCP/DNS/PXE infrastructure, GPU compute systems, client/server networking, VMware infrastructure, FC connected SAN, and Open Source software.
7 years Sr. Linux systems administration with 2 years supervisory experience.
Implementation of state-of-the-art and bleeding edge computing solutions with RHEL or equivalent.
Collaborate with faculty, students, administrative, and other departments to support computing systems and software for academic and experimental research computing.
Research detailed technical specifications, determining functional compatibility, comparing and contrasting constraints and standards, and modifying standard operations to support academic and experimental computing and research that produces new computing technology.
Provide technical recommendations on leading/bleeding-edge technology computing hardware and software to Computer Science faculty and students. Engage with OEMs, technical discussion groups, vendors, and internal centralized operations groups to obtain suitable solutions.
Install, monitor, and tune computing Virtualization Clusters, Supercomputing Clusters, and Hadoop Clusters used for academics and experimental computing research. Provide technical administration of storage and storage networking, compute networking, server hardware upgrades and maintenance, and cluster operating systems.
Provide documentation, guidance, and systems operations assistance to other technical staff on a diverse collection of technology in all areas of Computer Science.

Should be able to physically install and maintain rack mount and desktop computing hardware.
